ALTON LITTLE THEATER

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

Oscar Wilde, Poet/Playwright

“Of course, we all come to the Theater with Baggage; But if our hearts get opened and released…well, that is what theater can do…and does sometimes…and everyone is thankful when that happens.”

K.E. Baltimore
“Any form of Art is a force of power, it has impact, it can affect change — it can not only move us, it makes US move.”
Ossie Davis, American Actor

Alton Little Theater Wraps Up 90th Season with a Splash: “Singin’ in the Rain”

The curtain is rising on what promises to be a dazzling finale to Alton Little Theater’s (ALT) 90th season. From May 10 through May 19, with a potential extension, the theater presents the much-loved musical, “Singin’ in the Rain”, a classic homage to the iconic Gene Kelly film. This show, famous for its technical and performance demands—including the unforgettable tap dancing scenes—is rarely staged in smaller regional theaters, making ALT’s production a must-see event.

A Labor of Love and Dedication

Artistic Director Kevin Frakes has spent six months planning this ambitious production, demonstrating the creativity and persistence required to bring such a monumental show to life on a smaller stage. Together with Executive Director Lee Cox and a stellar production team including Choreographer Mary Fox, Music Director Mary Mahoney, Technical Director Brant McCance, and Costume Designers Colleen Michelson and Lee Cox, they’ve managed to reimagine this Broadway favorite for our local audience.

The result? A show that not only features classic numbers and makes it literally “rain” on stage but also respects the original’s spirit and charm. The dedication of the cast and crew shines through in every scene, transporting audiences directly into the golden era of Hollywood.

Stellar Cast and Spirited Performances

The lead roles, filled by talented actors Eric Sykes, Lorian Warford, Kati Ober, and Corrine Jones, echo the performances of Gene Kelly, Donald O’Conner, Debbie Reynolds, and Jean Hagen. Supported by an ensemble of 21, who master 90 costume changes and non-stop action through two and a half hours of dance and music, the cast’s energy is palpable.

More Than Just a Show

With good advance ticket sales hinting at a full house, ALT is considering adding an additional matinee. The excitement doesn’t end with the show; ALT maintains its tradition of engaging the community with raffles and a special celebration on Mother’s Day. Plus, the theater is already preparing for the upcoming season with significant discounts on early-bird season tickets and an open house on April 28 at the Showplace.

Don’t miss the opportunity to snag tickets for upcoming shows, including the nostalgic “Oliver” and the enchanting Disney tribute.
